 Killeen Independent School District is the 4th most diverse school district in the state of Texas. With over 50 campuses and 6,100 employees, Killeen ISD provides a safe learning environment to create a positive experience for 45000+ students. 

Killeen ISD implements extensive safety measures to create a secure environment. Here are some of the school safety measures taken at Killeen ISD:

Proactive Safety Measures 

  • Security Vestibules & Perimeter Fencing
  • Cameras to monitor campuses
  • Adherence to Texas School Safety Standard Response Protocol & all required drills
  • KISD performs annual intruder testing 

Facility Safety Measures

  • Single points of entry at all schools for visitors
  • Threat assessment teams are deployed at every school
  • Campus security vestibules with buzzer controls
  • Outside key boxes for local law enforcement
  • Metal Detectors at the secondary level
  • All campuses are equipped with Door Locking System 
  • All doors (exterior and interior) are locked at all time
  • Annual crisis plan review
  • Peepholes in exterior cafeteria doors

Killeen ISD Joins National 'Safe Place' Network

Killeen ISD, in collaboration with Central Texas Youth Services, is the region's first school district to join the national 'Safe Place' network, adding 52 campuses to serve as community safe havens for children. As a part of the ‘Safe Place’ network, 

  •  To assist students in distress, staff personnel at the 'Safe Place' location can contact a local youth shelter that provides services for 11- to 17-year-olds in need, such as Child Protective Services.
  • The school staff to work diligently to keep the doors locked, and they will continue to do intruder drills and use buzzer and camera systems.
  • A Safe Place designation sign (a yellow diamond shape with the words Safe Place and a house image) will be placed on exterior windows and perimeter fencing.
