Fine Arts Programs at Killeen ISD

Killeen ISD provides opportunities for students to engage with fine arts through dance, theatre, music, and visual arts. Through fine arts education, students can have unique experiences that may help them explore different realities, ideas, and relationships.

Fine arts can also help students in academic achievements, communication, higher order thinking, and collaboration. Involvement in fine arts is also believed to improve attendance and graduation rates.

Killeen ISD’s emphasis on various forms of art starts at the elementary level through sequential music instruction by music specialists. Middle and high school students are encouraged to participate in various award-winning band, dance, orchestra, choir and theatre programs. Students can choose to participate in any combination of art programs, athletics, and advanced academics.

Middle school students in Killeen ISD are introduced to various mediums and techniques in introduction to Visual Arts. Middle school art can help students develop critical knowledge and skills for life, or high school art. High school students begin with Art 1 (Elements and Principles of Design) after which they progress to 2D Painting and Drawing, 3D Sculptures, AP Studio Art or Art History.

At Killeen ISD, fine arts are compulsory for elementary students and elective for secondary level students. However, secondary students are required to earn a Fine Arts Credit in middle and high school. During the 2020-2021 school year, 13,500 students participated in secondary fine arts at Killeen, ISD.
