PreK and Kindergarten Programs At Killeen ISD

Killeen ISD lays a sound foundation of early literacy for young children. Delivered by qualified educators, PreK and Kindergarten programs, aims at providing enriching life learning experiences. KISD assists students in developing basic language, reading, and emerging writing skills at an early age through a combination of language learning, Math Talks, Science exploratory lessons, and literacy activities.

Below are details of PreK and Kindergarten programs at KISD

PRE-KINDERGARTEN 3-YEAR-OLD PROGRAM
(Only Available to FT. HOOD Active-Duty Military families living on-post)
 


 Pre-Kindergarten 3-Year-Old Program Features

  • Full-Day Program
  • Free of Charge
  • Certified Teachers and Trained Paraprofessionals
  • Research-Based Curriculum
  • Before and After-School Care Program with Child Youth Services (CYS)- for campuses on post.

Eligibility Requirements

  • A student must be 3 (three) years old on or before September 1 of the current school year.
  • A student must be a biological child, adopted child or step-child or a military member who is on Active Duty, is MIA or was killed or injured during active military duty (includes activated Texas National Guard and all activated Reserves),
  • Students must reside in on-post housing and in the attendance zone of the school they will attend (special consideration transfers may be approved but are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by Student Services).  

PRE-K4 FREE FULL-DAY PROGRAM


 Features

  • It is a full-day program
  • Certified Teachers and Trained Paraprofessionals impart the program
  • Research-based curriculum
  • Before and After-School Care Program with Armed Services YMCA- for campuses off post.
  • Before and After-School Care Program with Child Youth Services (CYS)- for campuses on post.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Student must be 4 (four) years old on or before September 1, 2022 AND must meet one of the following requirements:
  • The Home Language Survey indicates a language other than English; has a qualifying score on an Oral Language Proficiency Test and is classified as ELL by the LPAC; qualification under this criterion is provisional until an LPAC is held.
  • Eligible for the free/reduced-price lunch program (income level based)
  • Active Duty Military ID, DEERS form, or other reliable documentation demonstrating that the child is an eligible dependent of an Active Duty Military member or a prior military member who was injured, killed, or MIA while on active duty; simply being a retired military member does NOT meet this criterion.
  • Following an adversary hearing, has been placed in the conservatorship (foster care) of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
  • Parent who is eligible for or has received the Star of Texas Award
NOTE: The Interstate Compact for Military Students (ICMS) does not address Pre-K enrollment eligibility.
