Career Planning For High School Students at Killeen ISD

 Killeen ISD provides educational and career planning opportunities to help students advance toward a successful future. Some of the programs & resources offered by Killeen ISD to facilitate career planning for high school students are:

KISD STEM Program

STEM High School program at Killeen ISD offers a technology-enriched curriculum to promote students' analytical, critical, and innovative thinking. It provides project-based learning opportunities to empower students and inspire them to become self-motivated, adept, and lifelong learners. This program aims to provide students ample opportunities to earn post-secondary course credit prior to high school graduation and increase their capacity to succeed in STEM courses in college.

Naviance College and Career Planning Tools

Killeen ISD students can access the Naviance system from seventh grade through high school graduation. The system allows students to identify their strengths, interests, and learning styles.  Students can assess their personality traits and discover career options that appeal to their interests and strengths. Naviance is used to collect information that can be transferred to college applications, manage student-counselor communications, college recommendation requests, and track applications submitted to schools. It further assists students in

  • Researching careers, colleges, and majors
  • Finding local and national scholarships and enrichment programs
  • Exploring career interests, learning styles, personality types, and multiple intelligences
  • Building resumes and holistic portfolios for job and college applications
  • Setting goals and developing personalized plans for success
  • Requesting and sending transcripts
  • Learning about success skills, financial planning, self-discovery, and building a support network

College, Career, and Military Readiness

The College, Career, and Military Readiness team at Killeen ISD oversees multiple programs that are aimed at helping students be ready for college. The team aids students in exploring various career options and also assists them in establishing careers in the military.

Some areas supported by the team are:

  • Advanced Academics: Advanced Placement, AVID, Dual Credit, International Baccalaureate (IB), Gifted & Talented, STEM, and the Texas Bioscience Institute (TBI).
  • Career & Technical Education: Career and Technical Programs of Study connect students to career paths.
  • Military Readiness: Military awareness, recruiter relations, and military preparedness resources
  • Secondary Counseling & Advising: Middle and high school counseling programs
  • Special Campuses: Early College High School, KISD Career Center, and Pathways Academic Campus
  • STEM Academy: STEM Academies in Nolan Middle School, Roy J. Smith Middle School, and each of the comprehensive high school campuses
