Exceptional Opportunities At Killeen ISD

Killeen ISD offers exceptional opportunities across middle & high schools to help students succeed in their future workplace or higher studies. The opportunities are focused on preparing students to make their own decisions about college, career, or military readiness. The exceptional opportunities available to students can be classified into District-Wide, Middle School, & High School level programs.

District-wide opportunities include a tutoring center that offers free assistance with writing, reading, and math to students in grades 4-12. The tutoring center is located at Jackson Professional Learning Center 902 Rev. R.A. Abercrombie Drive, Killeen, TX – 76543. Killeen ISD believes that parents & community play an essential role in well-rounded education of children. Parent education classes and workshops are also organized by Killeen ISD to engage parents in the education system. 

In addition to opportunities for students and parents, Killeen ISD offers free full-day Pre-K & Kindergarten Programs to support development of foundational language, reading, and emergent writing skills. Five campuses across the district also offer Spanish bilingual program for Pre-K & Kindergarten students. Prek-3 is a special program available for active military families living on Fort Hood.

At middle school level, students have an opportunity to enroll in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). AVID students engage in challenging course-work by enrolling in programs such as pre-advanced placement. Killeen ISD Middle School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Academy provides students an opportunity to earn post-secondary course credit prior to high school graduation. The opportunities offered by STEM Academy empower students to become self-motivated lifelong learners.

For high school students, in addition to AVID, pre-advanced placement & advanced placement courses, & high school STEM Academy, Killeen ISD offers numerous exceptional opportunities, for example - dual credit options are offered by Killeen ISD in partnerships with Central Texas College and Temple College. These courses allow students to earn high school graduation and college credits simultaneously. Killeen ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers opportunities for students to learn industry skills, and instructional partnerships. 

Naviance – College & Career Planning tools are offered to students beginning in seventh grade to help them explore their interests and make career related decisions. The tools allow students to collect information for college applications, track college applications, research careers, find scholarships, build resumes, etc.

In addition to above mentioned opportunities, Killeen ISD offers military readiness, and secondary counseling & advising to the students.

CCMR – The ‘College, Career, & Military Readiness’ department of Killeen ISD is located at 902 N 10th St Killeen, TX – 76541. The team at CCMR supports the district activities related to Advanced Academics, Career & Technical Education, Military Readiness, Secondary Counseling & Advising, & STEM Academy. It also oversees the Special Campuses namely; Early College High School, KISD Career Center, and Pathways Academy Campus. These activities and special campus aim at creating opportunities that help students develop skills and gain knowledge to prepare them for their future including career, college, and military.
