Advanced Academics at Killeen Independent School District

The Advanced Academics opportunities provided by Killeen ISD are aimed at identifying and providing gifted and talented students with differentiated instruction for Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and Science. The objective of Advanced Academics program is to help students attain academic success by participating in various unique programs. 

Advanced Academics include the following:

  • Advanced Placement: Advanced Placement (AP) courses prepare students for college while providing them an opportunity to earn college credit. Students are also encouraged to do college-level coursework, which may help them in qualifying for scholarships. High school students can consult their counselors for information about the AP courses offered in their school.
  • College Credit/Dual Credit: Killeen ISD has partnered with Temple College and Central Texas College to provide students with a variety of dual credit opportunities. Students are given the opportunity to take college level courses in high school at no cost to them. Credits earned through dual credit courses will transfer to any college in Texas. Guidelines for admission and enrollment in dual credit courses are provided on the school district's website.
  • College, Career and Military Readiness: The College, Career and Military Readiness team supports Killeen ISD in areas related to Advanced Academics, Career and Technical Education, Military Readiness, Special campuses and Secondary Counseling/ Advising. 
  • AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) incorporates curriculum and learning strategies for mid-performing students in order to assist them in completing the college preparatory path. Educators are provided with training and methodologies that help students develop literacy, math, and critical thinking skills. AVID can provide support for students enrolled in any Advanced Academics programs with Killeen ISD. 
  • Gifted and Talented (G/T): The GT Program meant to tap into the special abilities of gifted and talented children. It encourages students to think, research, communicate n various subjects to excel at self-directed learning. High school students are provided G/T program through  Advanced Placement, dual credit, and other advanced course offerings. Specially trained teachers work with students in the Gifted and Talented Program.
  • International Baccalaureate: The IB program offered is aimed at helping students achieve academic and personal excellence through rigorous, high-quality education.
