Kindergarten - Free Full Day Programs at Killeen Independent School District

Killeen Independent School District (Killeen ISD) is committed to providing students with excellent educational opportunities. As schools reopen and the fun begins, Killeen ISD is offering a Free Full Day Program for kindergarten students goal of preparing kindergartener’s for future academic success. The program is conducted under the guidance and supervision of trained paraprofessionals and certified teachers.

Listed below are some highlights of the Free Full Day Program:

  • What it includes: The full day program consists of a research-based curriculum, before and after-school care programs with Armed Services YMCA (for campuses off-post) or Child Youth Services (for campuses on-post). The purpose of the program is to provide kindergarten students a head start into a life of fun, learning and personality development. 
  • Benefits of the Program: The program provides early literacy experiences that prime the minds of kindergarten students and prepare them for the road ahead. Qualified educators work with students to work with students to develop social, linguistic, and cognitive skills. Children are exposed to real-life experiences through exploratory science lessons, literacy enrichment, and Math Talks. Killeen Independent School District also offers the Spanish bilingual program for Pre-K and Kindergarten students at five campuses.
  • Eligibility Requirements: In order to be a part of the program, a child must be 5 years old by September 1, 2021. Eligibility in the state of Texas is not dependent on a child's enrollment in another state. Students who meet the eligibility requirements of ICMS (Interstate Compact for Military Students) can be exempt from the age requirement. 
  • Documentation and Enrollment: Those interested in the program are required to provide an official birth certificate, proof of residency for the last 30 days, latest immunization records, and Picture ID of a parent or guardian. 

The free full-day kindergarten program at Killeen ISD is beneficial for students in numerous ways. They are encouraged to learn important social skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, pre-literacy, and foundational math skills.
