Technology is transforming the process of learning in myriad ways, making it easier for students to assimilate information and for teachers to impart knowledge. The advent of digital learning tools like computers and other devices (tablets and mobile phones) has made it possible for students to avail of study materials at any time of the day and night. Some school districts collaborate with virtual schools to provide blended learning opportunities to their students.
  • Blended Learning: This form of learning includes online and face to face (school-based) learning opportunities. The benefit of blended learning is that students can work on a subject even after school hours. This improves their productivity and efficiency as far as time management is concerned. It also helps teachers in utilizing their time while reducing the cost of learning material.
  • Open Educational Resources: These resources are freely available on the web for learning, teaching and conducting research. They include textbooks, games, podcasts, digital libraries and other resources on the public domain. However, it is important to ensure that educational resources on the public domain should be of high integrity, quality and accuracy.
  • Self-Directed Professional Development: Interactive online webinars, videos and content streamed via web browsers has brought about an increase in professional development that is self-directed. Educators on such mediums are required to update their skills from time to time and also be in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.

In conclusion, the infusion of technology in the field of education/learning has improved instructor contact, collaboration amongst students, promoted active learning, made it easier for students to assess themselves on the basis of their competence and existing knowledge.
