Need Of School Curriculum

A concise and practical curriculum ensures that knowledge is imparted to learners effectively and on time. A school curriculum consists of various goals that teachers would like to achieve within a stipulated period of time, a list of tools to be used for teaching, a mode of assessment and comprehensive planning to achieve these goals.

School curriculums are important for the following reasons:
  • The Learning Experience Becomes Manageable: Without a curriculum, there would be no plan and no goal to be achieved. The whole learning process would be a haphazard project. A curriculum helps teachers to be organized in their efforts of imparting knowledge. The content to be taught is broken down into small manageable steps that is easier for students to catch up with.
  • Support For Teachers: A school curriculum is a boon for the teachers. It becomes easier for them to know what it is that they have to teach within a given time frame, how to teach and how to assess the students. A curriculum plans out everything for the teachers making the learning process as efficient as possible.
  • Clear Guidelines For Students: School curriculums offer students clear guidelines of what to learn and what to expect in an assessment. When students are offered an insight into what they will be taught and what they will be tested on, they can work in sync with their teachers to produce better results.
  • Helps Fulfill The Goal Of Education: The goal of education is to enable a learner to achieve his/her full potential in whatever they learn in the classroom with support of teachers. A good curriculum works towards achieving this goal by blending good teaching, intellectual tools, enough time, skills and a deep understanding of concepts.
  • Holistic Benefits: The benefits of a school curriculum go beyond the school and into the student’s future, impacting their wellbeing, financial status and social skills. These skills are helpful at various stages such as workplace, at recreational surroundings and as a member of one’s immediate community.
  • A Reflection Of The Current Trend In Education: School curriculums are a reflection of the direction towards which the society is heading. A curriculum keeps both students and their teachers at par with the latest education trends. Through curriculum, students are provided suitable knowledge that stands relevant at present. They are encouraged to participate in activities that meet the present day social requirements.
Conclusion: School curriculum is instrumental in achieving the goals of education. It provides goalposts to guide both teachers and students in the learning process. Learning becomes much more organized and structured when supported by a good up to date curriculum. It helps students develop deeper understanding and knowledge which reflects in their lives as successful members of the society.
