Apply to be a substitute teacher at Killeen ISD

Killeen Independent School District considers substituting to be a vital educational element for schools. Substitute teachers add enriching value to the overall learning system.  

Qualifications to be a substitute teacher in KISD: 

  • The candidate must be 19 years of age (to work in elementary and middle schools) and 21 years of age (in order to work in high schools).
  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Should have 12 credit hours or 2 years of experience employed in a position working or volunteering with children (e.g. daycare, camps, or coaching).  
  • At least 1 supervisor reference with a valid email address.
  • Able to work at least 5 days per semester.

Salaries & Stipends

The starting salary for a teacher is $52,000 a year. Additional stipends are available for bilingual and special education teachers. Employees at Killeen ISD have a week-long Spring Vacation, a week-long Thanksgiving holiday, and a two-week Christmas break. Teachers can also supplement their income by teaching Summer School.
