Benefits Of Early College High School

Early College High School is a unique experience offered by KISD. Starting in August 2015, it is the collaboration between Killeen Independent School District and Central Texas College. The concept allows students to have a hands-on experience to be ready for college in addition to earning a high school diploma and an associate degree.

Here are some of the benefits of Early College High School:

  • Earn College Credits: By attending Early College High School, students can earn an associate degree with real college credits up to 60 hours. This helps high school students earn some early credits for college by the time they complete their high school diploma.
  • Get Ready for College: Early College High School implements specially formulated strategies and activities that focus on creating a college culture. These activities can help students develop the required skills and gain relevant knowledge necessary for succeeding in the college.
  • Get Familiar with College: While attending Early College High School, students have access to the facilities, resources and services offered by Central Texas College. The students can connect with the faculty of the college, access libraries & labs, attend art & cultural activities, participate in extracurricular activities, etc. This helps them get familiar with the college culture for a smooth transition.
  • Time Management: College life requires students to manage and complete a number of tasks simultaneously. Thus, time management is an important skill required to succeed in college. Early College High School encourages students to learn to manage their courses, activities, and personal life well in time for college.
  • Support: Early College High School provides academic, social and emotional support services to students. Parental and community outreach programs are also included in these activities. These aim at building a better understanding of the college culture.
